Julie Fenske
Executive Director

Julie has been serving as Executive Director for nine and a half years and has more than 25 years of experience in hospitality and senior living development, management, and marketing.  Under her leadership, The Buckingham has been the recipient of four Diamond Awards from Greystone Communities and has achieved Certification as a Center for Successful Aging through our Masterpiece Living partnership.

Julie is a Rochester Institute of Technology graduate who holds a bachelor’s degree in hotel administration.  She served as the General Manager and Director of Sales for 10 years with the Marriott Corporation. She then served as the Vice President of Senior Housing Services at Unity Health System in Rochester, New York, where she managed, developed and directed a number of Unity's multiple senior housing communities. She was later recruited by Greystone Communities to be the pre-opening Executive Director of Ferris Hills at West Lake. Before joining The Buckingham, Julie held the position of Vice President of Operations for Living Communities, LLC, a Rochester-based senior living developer. Julie is also certified as a Retirement Housing Professional by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.

Philip Jacob
Health Care Administrator

Philip Jacob joined the Buckingham as Health Care Administrator in 2011, bringing several years of experience from SavaSeniorCare Houston properties. Under his tenure, The Plaza has maintained some of the highest clinical outcomes in the city and in 2015 received a deficiency free survey.  Philip credits a focus on employee retention and continuity of care for residents as keys to success.  Phil has an extensive background in hospitality management, starting his career in Hotel Management in Toronto, Canada.  He relocated to Houston in 2002 to join Courtyard by Marriott as Sales and Catering Manager.  His strong emphasis on staff and resident satisfaction make him a perfect fit with the Buckingham culture.

Tony Bejko
Director of Operations

Tony oversees Dining Services and the Transportation department at The Buckingham.  He joined the team in January of 2008, after spending eight years as the Director of Dining Services for Brighton Gardens in Bellaire, Texas.  Prior to his career in senior living, Tony worked at fine Italian-style restaurants across Europe. Tony is certified in hotel/restaurant management and holds additional industry certifications, including Certified Dietary Manager and Certified Food Protection and Processing. Tony received his associate’s degree in general mechanical techniques from Harry Fults Junior College in Albania and is fluent in English, German, Italian and  Albanian.

Cathy Lightfoot
Director of Sales and Marketing

Cathy joined The Buckingham in May 2003 as a Personalization Specialist and Senior Living Counselor before she was named to her current position as Director of Marketing.  Cathy stepped into her career in Senior Living through her Pastoral Care and Lay Ministry positions in the Episcopal church. A native Houstonian, Cathy has worked with seniors for more than 35 years. Prior to joining The Buckingham, she served as the Director of Marketing for St. James Place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Cathy says that "the joy of my profession is watching retirees get younger every day as they live the stress-free lifestyle of a Life Care Retirement Community. As a Masterpiece community, The Buckingham provides the residents the 'Life Care' they deserve as they enjoy the 'Lifestyle' they desire!"

Pam Ortiz
Director of Resident Services and Lifestyles

Pam joined The Buckingham shortly after it's opening in 2005.  As Director of Resident Services and Lifestyles, she manages many aspects or resident life including housekeeping, move ins and personalizations, and lifestyles.  Pam has been instrumental in our Masterpiece Living program as an original champion and led the effort toward Certification as a Center for Successful Aging.  Pam's extensive experience in the hospitality industry on Galveston Island laid the foundation of her role at The Buckingham.  Pam is a native Houstonian and graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, receiving a bachelor’s degree in restaurant, hotel and institutional management. 

Biju Oommen, MD.
CMD

Dr. Oommen, MD practices as an attending physician providing direct patient care and also serves as Medical Director to various facilities in the Houston area.  He is a native of Houston who completed medical training in Internal Medicine at Michigan State University and went on to complete Geriatric Fellowshipat the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.

 Dr. Oomen is board certified in Internal Medicine as well as Geriatrics.  He is also a Certified Medical Director (CMD) through the American Medical Directors Association (AMDA).  The American Medical Directors Association is the professional association of over 5000 physicians who specialize in long term care practice.

He was awarded Medical Director of the Year by Lifecare (National long term care corporation) for the Gulf States Region in 2006 and Medical Director of the Year for the Easter Division for 2009.  He was also nominated as the AMDA Medical Director of the Year in 2009.

Dr. Oommen is a member of the Harris County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, American Medical Directors Association, American Geriatric Society, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

He is committed to raising the level of care in the Long Term Care continuum and through his dedication strives to improve outcomes for his patients.

Elizabeth George
Resident Care Manager

Liz George joined The Buckingham team in October 2005.  She began as Assistant Director of Nursing and later moved into the Assisted Living Manager position at The Plaza.  In her current role as Resident Care Manager, Liz brings her extensive knowledge and expertise in working with seniors to support residents and their families navigate healthcare services offered at The Buckingham.  She began her career in long term care in the 1970s at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, New York, prior to moving to Texas in 1992.  Liz is proud to be a life member of the Red Hook Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home Foundation. She has three children, four stepchildren, 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

 

Will Shrier
Executive Chef

March, 2013, The Buckingham Senior Living community has named William Shrier Executive Chef.  

With experience at restaurants across the country, William understands the dynamics of creating world-class meals.  His background and understanding will create a dining experience unique only to The Buckingham. Our residents have a treat in store for them and we are excitedly anticipating the distinct menu that will spotlight Chef Shrier’s talents.

Prior to stepping into the role of executive chef, Will worked as Dining Room Manager for The Buckingham.  Before making the move to Houston, Will worked for upscale restaurants in New York and in Vail, CO. He is a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America.

April Dillon
Senior Living Counselor

April joined The Buckingham in 2014 with over ten years of experience in nonprofit continuing care retirement communities. She has enjoyed working with seniors in a variety of roles, including Director of Life Enrichment, Director of Social Work Services and most recently, Community Outreach Director for Franke at Seaside in Charleston, South Carolina. April is a Licensed Master Social Worker in Texas and holds a Master’s of Social Work with a Certificate in Gerontology from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

Shannon Mendiola
Human Resources Manager

Shannon brings more than 16 years of experience in human resources management to The Buckingham. She joins us after holding the position of Human Resource Manager for Lowe’s Home Improvement for more than 10 years. During her time with Lowe’s, she was ranked #1 in her district in 2010 and 2011 for exceptional customer service performance, and she received the highest Lowe’s employee engagement scores in the region from 2008 to 2011, achieving Lowe’s gold star status three years in a row. Shannon is a graduate of The University of Texas, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration with an emphasis in Management.

Leannna Mouhout
Director of Nursing

Leanna was promoted from her previous position of Associate Executive Director of Nursing at The Buckingham and has been with the community since 2012. In her new role, Leanna will be in charge of supervising the nursing staff and overseeing resident care, as well as administrative functions.

Leanna brings more than a decade of nursing experience to The Buckingham. She has held a variety of positions over the years, including assistant director of nursing, wellness director and nurse liaison. Prior to joining The Buckingham, Mouhot was a floor nurse at Cypress Creek Hospital.

“I’m so excited to begin this new journey with the amazing staff and residents at The Buckingham,” said Mouhot. “The Buckingham has an outstanding reputation within the Houston community, and I look forward to joining a team whose passion for helping people is similar to mine.”

Jarred Richardson
Director of Plant Operations

Jarred joined The Buckingham team in March 2015, bringing with more than a decade of experience with SQLC.  Jarred manages the maintenance team, overseeing the day-to-day maintenance needs of the community as well as working with contractors and vendors, planning community improvement projects and training staff.  He is also responsible for landscaping and security.

Originally from Garland, Texas, Jarred attended trade school for HVAC, where he acquired his EPA Universal HVAC license, HVAC Tech 1 certification and ICE Certification.  Jarred is currently pursuing his Associate of Arts - Business Degree and plans to transfer to University of Houston to complete his Bachelors in Business Administration - Management.

Lauren Jung
Director of Therapy

Lauren, who previously served as rehab director for Therapy Management Corporation, worked in conjunction with The Buckingham for the last three years to assess and improve residents’ functional independence. She consistently educates the residents and their families through wellness events and balance fairs, and she creates care plans by communicating with residents to ensure they receive the appropriate therapy services.

Monica Romero
Business Office Manager

“Monica has worked at The Buckingham for the past ten years, and has a proven track record of not only excelling in each role, but also developing a level of care for our residents and staff members that is truly irreplaceable.”

Monica, who previously served as billing specialist at The Buckingham, was responsible for all resident accounting and bookkeeping functions. Monica demonstrated a high level of interpersonal sensitivity, allowing her to effectively establish relationships with residents and their families. In Monica’s new position as business office manager, she will be responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of sound financial decisions by interfacing with the executive director and department managers to effectively manage the budget. Monica’s  passion to continue growing in her position at The Buckingham is a shining example of The Masterpiece Living® program – a philosophy which embraces a wellness-minded attitude, and encourages learning at any age, focusing on an individual’s key development areas – physical, mental, social and spiritual.
